DESCRIPTION This advanced defined purpose lift truck course is designed for both novice and experienced operators. Learners who meet the specific outcomes and assessment criteria will be permitted to operate Advanced Defined Purpose Telescopic Material Handler.

COURSE CONTENT
  • Mechanical appreciation
    We discuss operator maintenance areas, traction battery, electric ADPLT power train, gauges, the fuse holder and fuses, wheels, differential, inching equipment, braking system, mast and forks, hydraulic system, steering, wire guidance system, diagnosing faults and driving the ADPLT correctly.
  • Refueling
    We take learners through safety procedures, battery pack, the traction battery, servicing a battery, replacing the battery pack, positioning the ADPLT, preparation for removing the battery, lifting the battery, testing a recharged battery, placing a recharged battery and filling in fuel usage logs.
  • Pre-operating inspections
    We look at pre-operating inspections, lift truck components, inspection areas and checklist. Start-up checks and inspections. Start-up checks and inspections, in-cab checks and inspections, setting the driving position, pre-start check of the controls, starting the ADPLT, checking lifting controls and functionality, check ancillary equipment and controls, lift truck driving controls, lift truck in-cab checks and inspections.
  • Safety
    We discuss pre-operating safety, start-up precautions, shutdown safety precautions, driving safety, relationship between load and stability of a ADPLT, load chart rating, the principle of leverage, position of the load, principle of leverage, hazardous cargo safety, container loading safety, refueling safety, driving on public roads, emergency services, general housekeeping, safety legislation and use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Operator controls and maneuvering
    We talk about maneuvering/clearance, towing, using the horn, observation, maneuvering through a practice course without a load, maneuvering the ADPLT through a practice course with a load and hand signals.
  • Loading and offloading
    We outline storage areas, store layouts, stacking methods, pallets, handling pallets, handling interlocking cage pallets, bin pallets, block steel and sheet steel, bar steel, pipes, channel/angle iron and hazardous material stacking.
  • Handling cargo
    We show learners best practice concerning handling cargo with pictorial markers, lifting and transporting, hazardous cargo, safety signs, drum attachments, clamping a paper roll and other attachments.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS The company and learners must meet the conditions of the training requirements before theory training can be given, as well as the following, applicable to Lift Truck practical assessment:
• Ensure pallets are available for the building of a test chicane, along with barrier/danger tape to cordon off the practical assessment area.
• Ensure sufficient space to accommodate the practical assessment area.

FINAL EVALUATION

Theoretical Examination:
Summative and Formative evaluation.

Practical Examination:
Pre-start up and close down checks to be performed as well as practical operation.

Issued with a certificate.
